When an old Android tablet won’t connect to the Internet

One of my favorite Android games is Hay Day. My husband plays it as well. About a year ago, his Android tablet just wasn’t working well for him. It was a few years old, so he upgraded to a new one. We kept the old one since it was having a few issues and didn’t want to sell or give it away. Plus I could still play Hay Day on it for him since he had lost interest in the game.

Playing two accounts got tedious, so I stopped playing his tablet, put it in a drawer, and forgot about it for six months. I also eventually forgot about Hay Day – until recently when I started playing again. Then I remember this old Android tablet and was wanting to play on it as well.

After charging the tablet, I tried using Hay Day but an update was needed. It wouldn’t connect to the Play Store. I was connected to our WiFi, so I was very confused.

I tried using the web brower and going to Google but it wouldn’t load. My mind raced with potential fixes and thinking what all I could Google to find answers.

Then I tried loading a different web page and received a response! It wasn’t the page but it did hold the answer to my problem. The date and time were wrong with my tablet. So if the date and time are off – some servers will not render the webpage. This is a security measure that prevents requests from being repeated by hackers – or security enthusiasts.

I went into settings and sure enough my date and time were wrong! The date was June 17, 2018! My assumption is the CMOS battery in the device is no longer keeping the time/date when the battery drains. I’m assuming tablets are like PCs and have a battery on the motherboard that does this.

But this was the easiest tech fix I’ve had in a while. Now to play Hay Day as much as I want!
